Role overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Engineer II to lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data products that drive analytics, reporting, and machine learning across the organization. This role requires strong knowledge of advanced data engineering capabilities, strategic product thinking, and an ability to advise and collaborate across teams. You will work with internal and external partners and play a key role in shaping the data architecture and governance standards that support enterprise-wide decision-making.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex data products and pipelines to support advanced analytics and business intelligence.
Conduct routine and ad hoc complex data extractions, transformations, and analyses to support strategic initiatives.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with licensing, legal, and ethical requirements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable, high-performance data solutions.
Lead initiatives to implement curated datasets and reusable data assets.
Optimize and manage data models for performance, reliability, and scalability across multiple platforms.
Create and maintain advanced Tableau dashboards and visualizations, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Document and communicate technical architecture, data flows, and product features for diverse audiences.
Manage user permissions, access controls, and platform security to ensure data products are protected and compliant with organizational policies.
Contribute to the data product roadmap, prioritizing features based on user feedback and business impact.
Stay current with BI best practices and emerging technologies, including AI technologies
Perform prompt engineering to improve accuracy, relevance, and efficiency of generative AI tools.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers and analysts.
Ensure that data sets are high-performing, efficient, organized, and reliable, given a specific set of business requirements and constraints.
Facilitate secure storage and transfer of prepared datasets to external and internal partners
Serve as a subject matter expert and technical advisor across departments.
Develop and maintain database and dashboard applications for monitoring measures by CareQuest Institute staff.
Continuously evaluate and improve existing data infrastructure and processes.
Perform new and existing set-up and maintenance processes
Other duties as needed or required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, informatics, public health, or similar field
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics and dashboard development.
- 5+ years prior related technical and business experience required
- 5+ years of experience with SQL programming
- 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining data products
- Proficiency in the following technical applications/programs necessary
- Relational Databases (SQL Server preferred)
- Data Visualization (Tableau and/or PowerBI)
- Strong understanding of data architecture, modeling techniques, and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills to ensure that the messages are received and understood both up and down within stakeholders’ organizations.
What we're looking for
- Master’s degree in data science, computer science, informatics, public health, or similar field
- Experience with medical or dental claims data, electronic health records, and/or dental practice management software preferred
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (e.g., Git), and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
- Experience using data analytics and/or report development tools like PowerBI and Tableau

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.
- Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e., use of personal computer).
- Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.
- Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.
The target hiring range for this role is $117,725 - $138,500 ( Annually). The starting base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
