About The Role As Whatnot continues to scale its operations and enhance its platform, data-driven decision-making becomes central to our product development and user experience strategies. We are seeking a talented Product Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations teams to generate insights, drive experimentation, and inform strategic decisions. Your primary focus will be on analyzing user behavior, marketplace dynamics, and product usage patterns to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

You will be responsible for defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), designing and evaluating A/B tests, developing scalable data products and tools, and advocating for a culture of measurement and data literacy across the organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of our platform by translating complex data into actionable insights that enhance user engagement, marketplace performance, and overall product health.

What you'll work on

  • 3+ years of experience in Data Science, Decision Science, or Analytics within a product-focused organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience
  • Proven expertise in applying statistical and analytical methods to real-world product problems
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, modeling, and experimentation
  • Experience designing, implementing, and analyzing A/B tests with a solid understanding of causal inference techniques
  • Strong data visualization skills and familiarity with BI tools for creating interactive dashboards
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and impactfully
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing product strategy using data insights
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a high degree of ownership and accountability
  • Define and own KPIs that measure product health, user engagement, and marketplace performance
  • Analyze user behavior, product usage patterns, and marketplace dynamics to identify growth opportunities
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations for product and leadership teams
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to design, implement, and evaluate A/B tests and feature rollouts
  • Develop frameworks for causal inference, impact measurement, and long-term product evaluation
  • Build scalable data products, dashboards, and self-serve tools to empower teams across Whatnot
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data accessibility, ensure data quality, and support instrumentation for new features
  • Advocate for a data-driven culture by communicating insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Serve as a strategic partner to product leads, shaping how new features are built, launched, and iterated upon
