Description
SAIC is seeking an experienced Front-End Engineer proficient in modern web technologies with a strong focus on performance, accessibility, and integration with data-driven back ends. You will collaborate closely with the UI/UX Developer, data engineers, and product/governance SMEs to build the front-end layer of an enterprise data and AI platform, from initial component development through demo-ready dashboards and eventual handoff to the enterprise deployment environment.
We are looking for someone who is:
-
Mission-Oriented: Comfortable operating in a data/analytics-driven, government modernization environment and delivering professional-grade products rather than ad hoc prototypes.
-
Detail-Oriented: Strong care for UI polish, performance, UX consistency, and maintainability.
-
Collaborative: Works well across functional teams (design, data, governance, engineering) and listens actively to stakeholder feedback.
-
Agile Mindset: Flexible, iterative, comfortable with changing requirements, rapid demo timelines, high-visibility stakeholder review.
-
Self-Motivated: Capable of owning modules/components, contributing to architecture discussions, and taking initiative.
-
Develop, maintain, and evolve the front-end architecture and codebase for a client-facing enterprise data platform.
-
Translate high-fidelity Figma (or equivalent) designs into responsive, accessible, high-performance UI components.
-
Build interactive visualizations such as map views, timeline overlays, confidence metrics, filtering/search panels, and metadata catalog tables/grids.
-
Implement components in Storybook to maintain parity with the Figma design system and ensure consistent UI behavior across environments.
-
Optimize for best-in-class performance (page load, render times), accessibility, and compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508 standards; ensure alignment with the USWDS where applicable.
-
Write automated front-end tests to ensure reliability, maintainability, and demo fidelity.
-
Work in agile two-week sprint cycles; participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
-
Collaborate with the Agile/DevSecOps team on CI/CD integration (front-end builds, linting, code-quality checks).
-
Establish and enforce front-end coding standards, documentation, and component library best practices.
-
Support demo preparation and client briefings, ensuring the front-end conveys production-grade maturity and trustworthiness.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
-
5+ years of front-end development experience in enterprise or mission environments.
-
Proven experience developing modern web applications using React and TypeScript, integrating Storybook for component management, and applying standard build and code-quality tools (e.g., linting, unit testing, CI integration).
-
Familiarity with accessibility standards and usability best practices, including WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508 compliance.
-
Solid understanding of state management patterns and data-driven UI.
-
Demonstrated experience building responsive, cross-browser interfaces.
-
Experience creating dashboards or data-intensive applications (tables, charts, filters, search).
-
Proficiency in automated testing (unit, component, end-to-end) and code-quality enforcement.
-
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating across design, back-end, product, and data teams.
-
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
-
Security-conscious mindset, aware of front-end considerations in CUI/IL4 or other mission-critical contexts.
-
Experience in DoD, IC, or other government modernization efforts (e.g., CUI/IL4, Zero Trust).
-
Experience integrating front ends with data pipelines or analytics platforms.
-
Familiarity with front-end DevSecOps practices (build pipelines, front-end security/hardening, bundle optimization).
