Job Summary
Seeking an Electrical Designer who is highly motivated to join our team. The successful
candidate must have the desire and design experience in projects for residential,
commercial, and light industrial facilities with the highest level of quality, cost
effectiveness, and a focus on safety. The successful candidate will work under the
supervision of other licensed engineers and experienced designers to design electrical
systems for a variety of project types that include multifamily residential high rise, senior
living facilities, tenant improvement/buildout, and rehab of existing buildings. The
candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with other
members of our team.
Responsibilities:
Develop detailed shop drawings for all types of projects, emphasizing accuracy,
constructability, and compliance.
- Electrical designs for low voltage (208/480) electrical power distribution systems
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors on new construction/renovation
projects
- Work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Read and interpret design drawings and specifications.
- Engineering for power distribution, receptacles, lighting, mechanical and plumbing
equipment, and controls.
- Implement low voltage subcontracts into shop drawings for fire alarm, structured cabling
/ low voltage, security / access control, paging / AV, etc
- Electrical distribution design including incoming power from utility poles, pad
mount transformers, and service vaults.
- Emergency electrical service design including generators (stand alone and paralleled
sets), paralleling gear design, transfer switches, UPS systems, etc.
- Load calculations including service load calculations, panel schedules,
electromechanical schedules, , voltage drop calculations, etc.
- Utilize SKM Powertools to perform arc flash studies, short circuit fault analysis,
coordination studies, etc.
- Learn and incorporate CEC, NEC, NFPA, Life Safety, IBC, IECC, and other building code
knowledge
- Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize costs, materials, and timelines
without compromising quality or safety.
- Review and coordinate subcontractor submittals, RFIs, and change orders to maintain
project momentum.
Qualification Requirements:
- Ability to design low and/or medium voltage power, SKM, load flow analysis, and the
design of electrical construction drawings, under supervision.
- Multi-discipline projects involving Owners, General Contractors, and Contractors.
- Understanding of Engineering and Construction practices.
- Design/Build engineering & construction or consulting experience.
- Ability to perform modifications to existing facilities and the interpretation and
incorporation of existing electrical drawings into new designs.
- Reviewing and updating electrical system models.
- Proficient with written and verbal technical communication.
- Extensive working knowledge of electrical construction industry.
- Ability to understand all types of drawings and technical specifications
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code, Chicago Electrical Code, and other systems. Strong analytical skills. Detail-oriented problem-solver with a proactive mindset and ability to thrive in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in use of computers and Microsoft Office. Revit experience a plus.
