Role overview
We are looking for a highly motivated Data Scientist to help unlock insights, accelerate decision-making, and support UniFirst’s growing data and AI initiatives. This role is ideal for a recent master’s graduate in Data Science or a related field who is excited to apply advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, and data engineering techniques to real business problems.
As a Data Scientist, you will work closely with IT, business stakeholders, and the Enterprise Architecture & Innovation team to build analytical models, evaluate data quality, explore patterns and trends, and contribute to the development of data-driven products. You will help shape how UniFirst uses data for forecasting, optimization, automation, and operational efficiency.
This position is hands-on and collaborative, offering exposure to a wide range of domains including supply chain, finance, customer analytics, workforce planning, and AI-powered applications.
What we're looking for
Build statistical, predictive, and machine learning models to support initiatives such as forecasting, optimization, classification, and clustering.
Work with partners across the organization to translate business questions into analytical approaches and deliver meaningful results.
Prepare clean, high-quality datasets for analysis using Python, SQL, and cloud-based tools.
Implement reproducible analytical workflows using notebooks, pipelines, and version-controlled code.
Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and iterate to improve accuracy, robustness, and interpretability.
Create clear visualizations, dashboards, and presentations to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Data Engineers, and AI Engineers to integrate analytical models into operational systems or AI-enabled workflows.
Support experimentation, prototyping, and research into emerging data science methods and tools.
Ensure analytical work complies with corporate governance, data privacy standards, and responsible AI principles.
Entry-level candidates with the appropriate education will be considered.
Academic or project experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, or predictive analytics.
Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.) and/or R for data analysis.
Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL queries.
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, Power BI, Tableau).
Understanding of model evaluation techniques and best practices.
Experience cleaning, transforming, and manipulating real-world datasets.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Exposure to MLOps, experiment tracking, or model lifecycle management.
Knowledge of natural language processing, clustering, optimization, or time-series analysis.
Familiarity working with APIs, data pipelines, or integration tools.
Experience presenting insights to stakeholders or contributing to cross-functional projects.
Prior internship experience at UniFirst or a similar company strongly preferred.
Required Education:
Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Analytics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
The estimated annual salary for this position ranges from $68,121 to $85,000. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Geographic differentials may also apply depending on the position’s location. There is no application deadline for this role; recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.
