About The Role Lockheed Martin’s Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) is seeking a highly motivated engineer with hands-on experience in developing AI and machine learning software to join the AI Consulting team. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of AI specialists, developers, data engineers, and product managers within the broader AI Foundations organization. The successful candidate will focus on supporting the AI Consulting team by designing, developing, and deploying innovative AI solutions that address complex business and engineering problems. They will serve as a key contributor in disseminating best practices across the organization, creating knowledge materials, and engaging with data science leaders to foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects that impact Lockheed Martin’s enterprise-wide operations and strategic initiatives, with an emphasis on rapid prototyping, agile development, and deployment of AI-driven solutions.
What you'll work on
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience building machine learning models through work, projects, or coursework.
- Hands-on experience applying machine learning techniques such as regression, classification, natural language processing, deep learning, anomaly detection, or reinforcement learning.
- Proficiency in evaluating model performance and selecting appropriate performance metrics.
- Experience with feature engineering, data cleaning, and preprocessing.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, and deployment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to stay current with emerging AI technologies and methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills combined with business acumen.
- Experience in developing data products from inception to delivery and interacting directly with customers.
- Proficiency in Python programming language.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities and define requirements for AI solutions that provide actionable insights or augment human capabilities.
- Design, develop, and implement machine learning models to solve complex business and engineering problems.
- Perform feature engineering, data cleaning, and preprocessing to ensure high-quality input data for modeling.
- Track project progress, manage timelines, and ensure delivery of solutions in accordance with project milestones and best practices.
- Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics and optimize models for accuracy and robustness.
- Communicate technical findings and the value of AI models effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to the dissemination of best practices within the AI community at Lockheed Martin through creating knowledge materials and participating in discussions with data science leaders.
- Support the integration of AI solutions into existing systems and workflows, ensuring scalability and reliability.
- Participate in team meetings, knowledge sharing sessions, and collaborate across departments to foster innovation.
- Travel domestically up to approximately 10% for team meetings and project requirements.
