Sr. AI/ML Engineer

Location: Remote with occasional visits to client sites, marketing events, and HQ travel

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Engineer to join our government organization and drive the development and implementation of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in agentic AI systems, data integration, and enterprise-scale analytics platforms, with a proven track record of delivering production-ready solutions in complex environments. The role focuses on developing secure, compliant, and intelligent systems that leverage advanced technologies such as Agentic AI, Power BI, Dataverse, Kafka, Azure Event Hub, and Databricks. The selected candidate will build and integrate AI-driven data solutions to enhance decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and support mission objectives.

What we're looking for

AI/ML Development & Implementation

  • Design, develop, and deploy agentic AI systems that can autonomously perform complex tasks, make decisions, and interact with multiple tools and APIs
  • Build and optimize machine learning models for various use cases including predictive analytics, natural language processing, and automated decision-making
  • Implement MLOps best practices for model versioning, monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • Develop intelligent agents in Azure or custom code, capable of multi-step reasoning, tool usage, and adaptive behavior
  • Design and implement AI/ML models and Agentic AI frameworks aligned with government data policies and compliance standards.
  • Build secure data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analysis using Python, Databricks, Azure Event Hub, and Kafka.
  • Ensure all solutions conform to information security, privacy, and federal data governance guidelines.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and IT staff to ensure models and services align with agency goals.
  • Implement MLOps best practices for secure model deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization.

Data Integration & Pipeline Development

  • Architect and implement real-time data streaming solutions using Apache Kafka and Azure Event Hub
  • Design and develop robust data pipelines in Databricks for large-scale data processing and analytics
  • Integrate disparate data sources and ensure seamless data flow across the enterprise ecosystem
  • Work with Microsoft Dataverse to manage and leverage organizational data effectively
  • Integrate data across systems using Microsoft Dataverse and ensure interoperability with existing government platforms.

Analytics & Visualization

  • Create interactive visualizations that translate complex ML insights into actionable business intelligence
  • Integrate Power BI with various data sources including Databricks, Dataverse, and real-time streaming platforms
  • Create and manage Power BI solutions for real-time insights, trend analysis, and performance reporting to enable data-driven decision-making

API Development & Integration

  • Design and develop RESTful APIs for ML model serving and integration with enterprise applications
  • Create secure, scalable API endpoints for agentic AI systems and data services
  • Implement API gateway patterns and ensure proper authentication, authorization, and rate limiting
  • Integrate third-party APIs and services into existing workflows

Programming & Technical Development

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable Python code for ML pipelines, data processing, and automation
  • Develop reusable libraries and frameworks to accelerate development across projects
  • Implement testing strategies including unit tests, integration tests, and model validation
  • Optimize code for performance, scalability, and resource efficiency

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Agentic AI: Hands-on experience developing autonomous AI agents using frameworks like LangChain, AutoGen, or similar platforms
  • Python: Advanced proficiency in Python with experience in ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, pandas, numpy)
  • Databricks: Demonstrated experience with Databricks for distributed data processing, ML workflows, and collaborative development
  • Streaming Technologies: Practical experience with Apache Kafka and Azure Event Hub for real-time data ingestion and processing
  • Power BI: Strong skills in Power BI including DAX, Power Query, and custom visualizations
  • Microsoft Dataverse: Experience working with Dataverse for data management and integration
  • API Development: Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs using frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with Azure services (Azure ML, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, etc.)

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or related roles
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in government or highly regulated environments
  • Proven track record of deploying ML models to production
  • Experience with end-to-end ML project lifecycle from research to deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large-scale datasets and complex data architectures

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work in the USA without needing a visa (Green Card or US Citizen)
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance requirements in government settings
  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex technical challenges
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain security clearance
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
  • Experience with LLM integration and prompt engineering
  • Knowledge of graph databases and knowledge graph construction
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates)
  • Certifications in Azure, Databricks, or related technologies
  • Background in Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools
