Role overview
A fast-growing NYC startup is building an agentic AI platform purpose-built for investment banks and private equity firms.
They're hiring for a Founding AI Engineer:
- Lead integration and optimization of LLMs, embedding models, and semantic retrieval into production systems
- Design and deploy multimodal retrieval + agentic workflows across unstructured and structured financial data
- Push forward agentic architectures : composability, function calling, modular orchestration
- Improve retrieval quality and AI outputs using real customer feedback loops
- Prototype and ship new AI capabilities used by major financial institutions
- Work closely with engineering, product, and customer teams to translate AI capability into business impact
What They’re Looking For
Core
- 2+ years deploying ML systems in production
- Experience integrating closed-source LLM APIs and fine-tuning open-source models
- Hands-on with embeddings + vector DBs (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, Chroma, PGVector, etc.)
- Experience building semantic retrieval across mixed data types
- Strong Python (Hugging Face, PyTorch/TensorFlow, LangChain, etc.)
- Comfortable with ambiguity and owning projects end-to-end
- Strong communicator
What we're looking for
- Experience with agentic systems, function calling, orchestration frameworks
- Familiarity with financial datasets and retrieval challenges
- Performance tuning/scalability for AI retrieval
- Startup or entrepreneurial background
- Interest in applying generative AI to complex business workflows
Compensation & Benefits
- $200,000 – $300,000 base
