Role overview
Oxford Information Labs is an Oxford based Technical and Research consultancy founded in 2002. Over the years we have worked with a mixture of public and private sector organisations to deliver value both technically and through expert consultancy and research. We are currently engaged primarily in a not-for-profit venture (The Global Signal Exchange) which has a mission to reduce fraud through real-time cross-border, cross-sector signal sharing.
We are currently recruiting the role of Data Scientist which sits within the Cyber Policy Research team in Oxil. The primary focus is in supporting the work of the policy team in their delivery of Oxil research projects using a mixture of in-house data analysis tools and adhoc software development to provide effective numerical and interpretive analysis. Whilst overseen by the Director of Policy, the role has a dual element overseen by the Chief Technical Officer which focuses specifically on research and new innovations around the Global Signal Exchange product.
Successful candidates would have a strong numerate background with experience in statistical analysis. Experience in the technical use of AI - specifically in engineering prompts for Large Language Models (LLMs) is desirable with some experience in software development also highly desirable but it should be noted that this is not primarily a development role. Due to the research focus of the role, the candidate should be a collaborative team player with a can-do, flexible attitude comfortable working in a constantly changing environment with an acceptance that some solutions may succeed where others may not.
In terms of prior experience, we would expect a successful candidate to have a strong academic background in a mathematical / computational discipline. Whilst not essential, 1-2 years experience in a similar role is desirable.
All candidates must be based in commuting distance of Oxford (this is predominantly an in-person role) and have the right to work in the UK.
The salary range for this job is £30k - £40k depending on experience. Other benefits include lunch provision, private health care and subsidised gym memberships as well as a workplace pension scheme.
