Job Summary:**

The Quantitative Translational Imaging in Medicine Lab, located within the Division of Artificial Medical Intelligence of Department of Ophthalmology in the University of Colorado School of Medicine focuses broadly on quantitative and machine learning techniques in multiple modalities of medical imaging (e.g. fundoscopy images, OCT scans, MRI, CT, X-ray and digital pathology). We bridge the gap between machine learning research and clinical practice through fruitful connections with our clinical collaborators. Our research has potential to revolutionize treatment paradigms and transform the care of patients. This position will be working in the exciting and dynamic fields of deep learning and medical imaging. The main focus will be to develop novel deep learning algorithms to analyze medical imaging data (e.g., ophthalmology, radiology and pathology) and answer clinically impactful questions. The role will work with clinicians and end-users at the Division of Artificial Medical Intelligence within the Department of Ophthalmology of University of Colorado School of Medicine, to develop solutions to cutting-edge clinical questions. The candidate will also have the opportunity to pursue theoretical projects on novel datasets and collaborate with world-class clinicians at the University of Colorado and external collaborators. Data Scientists are expected to 'own' a project and make meaningful progress, leading to 2+ journal/conference publications per year.

What you'll work on

  • Discuss with faculty and senior researchers to identify research questions, discuss results, analyze alternative routes to ensure progress
  • Conduct literature search prior to and throughout each research project to familiarize oneself with state of the art
  • Implement code to run experiments to explore the research questions, analyze results
  • Document work, including: documenting code, drafting manuscripts, prepare slideshow presentations for internal review and for conferences

What we're looking for

  • Knowledge of basic concept of Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing (through course work, academic projects, or work experience)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
