We’re hiring a Senior AI Research Scientist to join our team in Lisbon and focus on research and development on state-of-the-art AI and LLM technologies, which will power the next generation of products at TransPerfect. The TransPerfect AI Research team (formerly Unbabel AI Research) has been a vital part of the company’s success since its formation over 10 years ago – delivering state-of-the-art, award-winning AI technology for machine translation, quality estimation, and language modeling, including the COMET and TowerLLM series of models. This technology has been incorporated in products and services that have drastically simplified the lives of our clients and colleagues – from workflow improvements for colleagues to core services that form the basis of the company’s GlobalLink platform.
The minimum we’re looking for (show us what you got if you aren’t a perfect fit):
- PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or related field OR MSc degree in these areas and 4+ years of experience in industry.
- 4+ years of experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques and tools.
- 5+ years of experience programming with Python and/or similar software development environments.
- Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Huggingface Transformers, Megatron, Nemo, or equivalent.
- Have a critical mindset to assess alternative approaches and evaluate potential research problems.
- Be goal-oriented and capable of breaking research problems into milestones.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Plus: Track record of publications in top NLP and ML conferences.
Your responsibilities and tasks will include:
- Conducting and leading novel research that advances the state-of-the-art in Machine Translation, Quality Estimation, Multilingual Large Language Models, and Natural Language Processing
- Implement code for training, fine-tuning, testing, and evaluating models
- Playing an active role in the NLP and ML research communities
- Coordinating and working with our other TransPerfect teams to understand and develop technology-based solutions to key challenges of the business.
