Jess is Founder of Banquet, a consultancy platform exploring the future of commerce, branding culture and human behaviour as algorithms begin making decisions on behalf of consumers before humans even realise it is happening.

We went deep into humanity: taste, sovereignty, sensory experience, embodiment and then asked the question whether we are slowly optimising away the very friction that makes life rich and meaningful in the first place.

So what then happens when AI agents start choosing products, brands and experiences for humans automatically, often without consumers ever forming an emotional relationship with the brand itself.. we get a beige society and AI starts eating the banquet.

There was also a really important point around AI ethics, safety and sovereignty, particularly for women. Jess spoke openly about the AI safety documentary she is currently producing and the growing concerns around bias, deepfakes, privacy and the lack of women participating in many of the conversations shaping the future of this technology.

I loved Jess’ reminder that life is meant to be experienced fully, not endlessly optimised, “Stop. Join the banquet. Look at the picture.”
